What is VET

Vocational Education and Training (VET), also known as 'Technical and Vocational Education Training and Skills Training,' is practical and industry-focused, designed to equip students with the specific skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen career fields.

Major fields of study

VET courses are available in areas including:


  • business, accounting, management, social media, marketing, and entrepreneurship
  • hospitality, cookery, patisserie, travel and tourism
  • childcare, aged care, disability support, and community services
  • information technology (IT), cyber security, and computing
  • building and construction, architecture, planning
  • health, psychology, and laboratory sciences
  • creative industries, fashion, and design

Qualification Levels

Each VET qualification can be a first step towards a new job or a new skill, or a pathway to further study. Diploma and advanced diploma courses may also provide study credit towards a higher education (university level) degree.


Certificate I

  • Duration: approx. 4 to 6 months


Certificate II

  • Duration: approx. 1 year


Certificate III

  • Duration: approx. 1 year


Certificate IV

  • Duration: approx. 12 to 18 months


Diploma

  • Duration: approx. 18 to 24 months


Advanced Diploma

  • Duration: approx. 24 to 36 months
